For Consumers

More than 92.8 million U.S. consumers are member-owners of—and receive all or part of their financial services from—the nation's nearly 8,000 credit unions. Credit unions are nonprofit financial cooperatives serving members who share something in common such as employment, association membership, or residence in a particular geographic area. Because credit unions are nonprofit cooperatives, they can generally offer more attractive savings and loan rates, and low or no fees. Credit unions are democratically owned and controlled institutions based on a "people helping people" philosophy—credit unions exist to help people, not to make a profit.

In Oregon, there are 82 credit unions serving 1.5 million members, and the Credit Union Association of Oregon provides a voice for credit union members on issues that impact Oregon's credit unions.
