The Northwest Credit Union Association’s Regulatory Advocacy team works with Oregon, Washington and federal regulators to advocate around the development and implementation of new rules and regulations. Our goal is to help ease the regulatory burden on credit unions and strike a fair balance between consumer interests and credit union compliance. The Association actively encourages our members to participate in the regulatory process in order to better ensure the development of reasonable regulations.
Once a new rule has been finalized, the Association assists member credit unions with their compliance efforts. The Association currently employs several attorneys and seasoned compliance staff dedicated to shaping, influencing, and helping interpret new regulatory responsibilities for our member credit unions.
We need your feedback! Federal and state regulators frequently seek input on proposed rules and regulations. View regulations and rules currently open for comment.
With the recent changes to debit interchange fees there is an ongoing concern about potential discrimination against small issuers. The Association is partnering with CUNA on a centralized location for the submission of suspected discrimination and a coordinated response. When a concern has been shared with CUNA, they will share it with the Association and appropriate authorities.
The Association’s Regulatory Advocacy staff produces comment letters directed to key regulators & policy makers on issues with an operational impact on credit unions.

The Association site has an entire section devoted to compliance assistance and resources.
